Obituary

Kay Walsh’s Irish eyes are now smiling in Heaven. She passed away Friday, August 10th in UMass-Memorial Hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. Kay leaves a brother in law, James Dunn of Worcester; a sister in law, Ruth Walsh of CT; a niece, Mary Beth Stanton and her husband Bill of Holden; nephews, James Dunn and his wife Jo-Ann of Rutland, Kevin Dunn and his wife Judy of RI, Thomas Dunn of Gardner. She also leaves nephew Francis Walsh and his wife Jane, nieces Mary Lavery and her husband Richard, and Kelly Walsh all of CT. Kay leaves many grandnephews and grandnieces, including Brendan and Ryan Stanton and Katherine Rose Dunn and many dear friends. She was predeceased by a brother and sister, Thomas Walsh and Mary Dunn.

She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Walsh) Walsh. A graduate of St. Stephen’s High School and St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, Kay had a long and fulfilling career as a registered nurse at several local facilities. She cared for patients of all ages and illness at Worcester City Hospital for over 40 years. Kay later assisted clients at Pernet Family Health Services and Catholic Charities, as well as volunteering at St. Bernard’s Free Clinic for many years.

Kay was a Minister of Holy Communion and served on the pastoral council of Our Lady of the Angels Church and was a member of Catholic Nurse’s Association and the St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing Alumni. Her many interests included knitting, reading, volunteering, and all things Irish.

Her funeral is Tuesday, August 14th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 11:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. A visiting hour is from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M. Tuesday in the funeral home.
