…WWII Army Air Corps; 91
TEWKSBURY – Caroline A. “Kerry” (Gilbert) Taylor, age 91, a WWII Veteran, died Thursday afternoon, August 9, at Lowell General’s Saints Campus, following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late James E. Gilbert who died in 1976. She then married Francis W. “Frank” Taylor, who died in 1986.
She was born in Portland, Maine, April 24, 1921, a daughter of the late Oliver R. and Mary E. Sciarappa. She was raised in Revere, MA, and graduated from Revere High School. She enlisted in the Army Air Corps, and served Stateside in the deep south during the WWII.
Upon her honorable discharge, she moved to Arlington and raised her family there. She was employed by the Town of Arlington, and retired to Tewksbury in 1988.
In her earlier years, she and her husband James owned a sailboat and were members of the Medford Boat Club. As she raised her family she became active in the St. Agnes Parish, C.Y.O. Band.
She and her late husbands enjoyed travel, and she had visited France several times, as well as Hawaii, numerous trips to Florida, and for many years, wintered in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
She is survived by three children, Elizabeth M. Weingrad and her husband Daniel Weingrad, M.D. of Miami Shores, FL, Christine M. Hauray-Gilbert of Wilmington, and James E. Gilbert Jr. of Freedom, NH; a sister-in-law, Nancy Sciarappa of Wilmington, wife of the late Michael Sciarappa; five grandchildren, Julie and her husband David Peretz of Silver Spring, MD, Marc Weingrad and Rachel Weingrad both of FL, Charlotte Hauray and Gabrielle Hauray both of Wilmington; and twin great grandchildren, Avishai and Sima; and many nieces and nephews.
She was sister of the late Mary R. (Sciarappa) Ginsburg and her husband the late Mitchell Ginsburg.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, August 13, in St. Dorothy’s Church, Wilmington. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington. Memorials to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 will be appreciated.
