Obituary

Charlotte M. Acquaviva, 73, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 in Mystic, CT. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut to Philip J. and Joyce W. Acquaviva. She attended The Chaffee School, Radcliffe College and completed her formal education at Harvard Law School, class of 1963.

Charlotte began her career in the Trust Department of The Connecticut Bank and Trust Company and continued practicing Trust Law at the Bank of Hawaii. She developed a case of Island fever and decided to move to New York City. She changed her law focus to Governmental Affairs and worked for New York Life for approximately 20 years. Charlotte wanted to live closer to home and shifted her legal focus back to Trust Law at the Bank of New England until its demise. She completed her career at the Connecticut Insurance Department as Counsel to the Insurance Commissioner.

Charlotte was formerly a member of the Board of Trustees at the Loomis Chaffee School. She was active in Episcopalian Church affairs both in New York City and Connecticut and had a true passion for helping individuals in many ways. She had a love for the Classics and was always ready to discuss any topic. Charlotte thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephew whenever and wherever possible. She loved her two Abyssinian Cats, Fritz and Lily, who gave her great pleasure.

Charlotte is survived by her two brothers, Philip C. Acquaviva, of Irving, Texas and Samuel S. Acquaviva and his spouse, Leslie, of Groton Long Point, four nieces and nephews: Dr. Kimberly Deanne Acquaviva and her wife, Katherine Estelle Brandt and their son, Greyson Kendall Acquaviva, of Virginia, Jennifer Chaffee Acquaviva and her husband, Thomas Warren Bass and their son, Thomas Chipman Bass, of Virginia, Kristen Rachel Acquaviva, of Erfurt, Germany and Jonathan Philip Acquaviva of Ghana, Africa. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law Jean Ellen.

Charlotte’s family will greet relatives and friends at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic, CT on Thursday, August 16th between the hours of 4:00pm and 7:00pm. A graveside service will follow the next day for family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlotte’s name to HFPG, Inc. for the “Joyce and Philip Acquaviva Scholarship Fund” at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, 10 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford CT 06106.
