Obituary

Fitzpatrick, James P., age 73, died August 6 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Son of the late Georgia (Burbeck) and Martin Fitzpatrick, and former husband of the late Leola “Lee” (English), Jim was born and raised in Waltham moving to Marshfield in his teens. After school he joined the army, serving in Germany, Alaska then finally as a tank commander in Vietnam. After being wounded, he retired from the military. He earned a BFA from Mass College of Art and a MFA from BU. He taught art in Scituate Schools and later in Waltham High. He remained an active veteran’s advocate throughout his life, and VP for the Mass Vietnam Era Veterans Assoc during the 70’s. In the 80’s he was a civilian employee for the US Army in Germany, running the Arts and Recreation Programs for the military and their dependents. Jim continued to paint, sculpt and create digital art throughout his life, winning awards in the US and Europe. He is survived by his wife Ann (Mailhot) Falcone, children Deirdre Fitzpatrick of Santa Clarita CA; son Eric Fitzpatrick of London, England; step-son Justin Falcone of New York, NY; and grandchildren Fiona, Christian, and Emma Fitzpatrick. Memorial Service will be on Saturday, August 11 from noon -3:00 pm at the VFW Hall, 655 Main Street (Rte 3A) in Marshfield, and interment in National Cemetery in Bourne on Monday at 9:15 AM.
