George Gerard O’Brien of Roslindale died suddenly on August 4. He was a resident at AVITA of Needham. He was the husband of the late Phyllis (Corbett) O’Brien.
Born in Boston, June 12, 1926, the son of the late Henry and Mildred (Doyle) O’Brien, George lived in Roslindale for most of his life.
He was a graduate of Roslindale High School and Boston University with a BA and MBA. A mathematical analyst and teacher he also ran the George O’Brien Insurance Agency until his death. He served in the Army during both WWII and the Korean Conflict. George was a long time and active parishioner of the Sacred Heart Church in Roslindale where he volunteered in many capacities.
He loved traveling and meeting people.
He is survived by his children, Sherin O’Brien of Plainville, Maureen Gallagher and her husband Gerald of Medfield, George G. O’Brien Jr and his wife Kristen of Noank, CT, Stephen O’Brien and his wife Jonette of Westwood, Mary McClintock and her husband Bruce of East Walpole, and Kristin Constantino and her husband Gary of Raynham.
He is also survived by his brother Edward O’Brien of Hull and his sister Mildred White of Needham. He has 9 grandchildren Caitlin, Erin, Gregory, Brittany, Andrew, Molly, Robert, Isabel and Mikayla and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is also the brother of the late Frank, James, Harry, May Grace McKeon, Evelyn Webster and Katherine Bilodeau
His funeral will be held on Friday August 10 from the Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main St. in Walpole at 9:15 followed by a funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Falmouth.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
