LANG - Of Duxbury, May 13, Frank J., Boston District Fire Chief (retired), 81 years old, beloved husband of the late Margaret Peggy (McCarthy) Lang. Father of Lt. Col. Frank J. Lang Jr. of VA, Robert H. Lang of Braintree, Margaret Lang Burke and Kathleen Lang D’Amore, both of Duxbury. Also survived by seven grandchildren. Brother of Christine Lang of Derry, NH and Anna McCarthy of Milton and the late Henry C. Lang and Jean M. Lang.
From 1941 to 1946 he served in the U.S. Coast Guard 7th Fleet Pacific aboard the U.S.C.G. Cutter Ingham and U.S.C.G. Cutter Campbell.
Chief Lang’s service medals are as follows: American Defense Medal (Bronze Star for Combat), Asiatic Pacific Area Medal (Bronze Star for Combat), Philippine Liberation Medal (Bronze Star for Combat), Good Conduct Medal and The W.W. II Victory Medal.
He Joined the Boston Fire Dept. where he served for 41 years mainly in District 7, Roxbury-North Dorchester. Chief Lang was a member of Firefighters Local 718 and Past Cmdr. of VFW Post 460. Upon his retirement, he continued as Chief of Fire Prevention at Boston University.
