Andrew "Andy" A. Bernard, 90, a resident of Methuen, MA, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the Blaire House of Tewksbury, MA.
Born in Lawrence, MA, he attended Lawrence High School. Andy was a Dental Technician for many years owning his own dental lab. After closing the lab, he was involved in Dental sales helping many dentists to set up their offices. A veteran of World War II, Andy served as a Navy Corpsman which was attached to the Third Marine Division. He received the Silver Star Medal for conspicuous gallantry in connection with operations against the enemy. Andy had been active with the New England Chapter of the Third Marine Division Association. The Andrew Bernard Square on East Street near the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen was dedicated to him in October of 2002. Andy enjoyed trout fishing as well as the mountains of New Hampshire. He also enjoyed playing golf after his retirement.
The widower of Mary M. (Hopkins) Bernard who passed away in 2010, members of Andy's family include: his son Richard Bernard and his wife Barbara of Londonderry, NH, and 2 grandsons: Larry Richardson and Greg Porter. He was predeceased by his 2 brothers: Edward and Napoleon Bernard, as well as his sister: Edna McEvoy.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Monica's Church, 212 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
