Obituary

FRANKLIN—William John O’Neill 66, of Franklin, died suddenly Monday July 30, 2012 while on a business trip in San Jose, California. He was the beloved husband of Donna M. (Marcou) O’Neill for 43 years.
Born in Boston, June 18, 1946 a son of the late William J. and Rosemary (Cramer) O’ Neill he was raised and educated in Brookline, and was a 1964 graduate of Brookline High School. He also attended and graduated from Boston College class of 1968. At the time of his death, he was employed as a Technical Consultant for Oracle.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Captain, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in October 1972.
Mr. O’Neill was a 40 year communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Franklin, and also formerly served as a lector, and was active in the CCD and CYO programs. He was a CYO basketball coach, was involved with the evenings for the engaged program, and was an early & longtime volunteer with the St. Rocco festival. He enjoyed fishing, running, time away at Sanibel Island, Florida and Cape Cod.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children; William Joseph O’Neill and his wife Amy of Natick, Elizabeth M. Dingee and her husband Scott of Braintree, and Michaela M. Hava and her husband David of Natick. He also leaves his 11 adoring grandchildren who called him “Papa”, Keegan, Braden, MacKenna, Kincade, Catie, Molly, Liam, Colleen, Declan, Callan, and Maeve.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Tuesday Aug. 7th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. FRANKLIN, www.oterifuneralhome.com, with a concelebrated funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. Franklin at 10AM. His interment will be held privately.
Calling hours are Monday Aug. 6th, from 4-8PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory sent to Dana Farber Cancer Institute c/o Breast Cancer Research 10 Brookline Place 6th Fl. Brookline, MA 02445 would be appreciated.
