Joan E. Wright, a life long resident of Woburn passed away on July 30th at the Sawtelle Family Hospice Home in Reading following a one year courageous battle with lung cancer. She was 67 years of age. Joan was the beloved wife of the late Robert D. Wright and together they shared forty years of marriage prior to his passing in 2009. Born in Woburn Joan was one of seven children of the late Herbert B. and Helen (O'Donnell) Cogan.
Joan was a 1962 graduate of Woburn High School. She enjoyed being outdoors whether sitting on her front porch, spending time at the beach which she loved, or on the move shopping. She also worked for close to ten years as a waitress at the Woburn Country Club and was a member of the Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club. Joan loved to be with her family and friends and especially cherished her time with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and many dear friends.
In addition to her late husband and parents, Joan is preceded in death by her sister, the late Nancy McDonough. She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Kathy Armstrong and her husband Scott of Woburn, Kevin Wright of Woburn, and Gabriel Wright of Winthrop. She was the loving grandmother of Cogan Armstrong and twins Hannah and Grace Armstrong. She is also survived by her sisters, Lynda Odams, Donna Haney and her husband Steve, all of Woburn, brothers, Hub Cogan and his wife Robyn of Byfield, Robert Cogan and his companion Diane Lapenta of Lowell. She is further survived by her brother-in-law Tommy McDonough of Winchester and several nieces, nephews, many cousins and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Saturday, August 4th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Friday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with inurnment at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
