Obituary

MARBLEHEAD - June Lillian Waterman Goldsmith of Marblehead died Sunday July 29th at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers at the age of 82.

Born in 1930 in Marblehead, she was the daughter of Harold and Helen Waterman. A graduate of Marblehead High School and Radcliffe College, June worked as a geologist and a technical editor with the U.S. Geological Survey in Colorado in the 1950s and in Virginia in the 1970s and 1980s. It was at the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver that she met her late husband Richard with whom she spent 46 years in marriage until he passed on in 2001.

A lively, curious, and joyful person, June enjoyed music as a listener and a musician, and was an avid traveler. She and Richard spent time living and raising a family in Colorado, Massachusetts, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, Maryland, and Virginia before returning to Marblehead in the late 1990s to take care of her mother.

June is survived by her son Charles Goldsmith of Hong Kong; daughter Kathryn Goldsmith-DeRagon and husband Curt of Salem, and his daughter Jessica; son R. Stuart Goldsmith and wife Linda, and grandson Erik Goldsmith and wife Rachel of Texas; brother Charles and wife Jean of Virginia; niece Sharon Darmofal and husband Chris of Medway; cousins Bobby and Penny ne Holloway; sister-in-law Rachel Robinson and her children Christine and Robbie, and other nephew-in-law, Thomas Pulsifer.
