
Ronald F. Prefontaine, 69, of Worcester died Monday, July 30th peacefully at home after an illness. His companion of 27 years, Beverly Hellstrom died on May 7th, 2012. He leaves his son, Michael Prefontaine of Rutland and his children Nicholas, Alec and Benjamin; his daughter, Susan Prefontaine of Rutland and her children Joseph and Katrina Kenadek; his brother Richard Prefontaine and his wife Sandy of Auburn; Beverly’s grandchildren Jordan and Nicklaus; many nieces and nephews including a special niece Kathryn Horback. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Ashley Kenadek.
Mr. Prefontaine was born in Worcester, the son of the late Adelard and Eva (Yeulinski) Prefontaine and lived here all his life. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1960, where he excelled at football and was named to the 1959 Worcester all-city, all-star team. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. After completing further schooling in 1970, he became a journeyman working with the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #63 for several years. He later worked in the roofing business, eventually becoming a self-employed roofing contractor. After retirement in 2006, he was a caregiver to Beverly until her passing. He enjoyed gardening, cooking and travelling with Beverly when she was in good health.
His funeral is Thursday, August 2nd with a service at 11:00 AM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, August 1st from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
