Manuel R. Tavares, 71, of New Bedford died Sunday May 9, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the late Francisco and Ludovina Tavares, he had lived in Brava for many years before moving to Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He had lived in New Bedford for the past 8 years.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Survivors include a son, Jose Tavares of New Bedford; three daughters, Lulu Tavares Ramos, Julia DePina, and Domingas Tavares, all of New Bedford; a brother, Julio Tavares of New Bedford; two sisters, Celestina Tavares DePina of New Bedford and Julia Tavares Monteiro of Dartmouth; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be on Friday May 14, 2004 from 5-9 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
