Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — Arnold R. Griffiths, age 92 years, of Dartmouth, died Monday, July 23, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Florence M. (Simpson) Griffiths.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Charles R. and May (Wrigley) Griffiths, he was a lifelong area resident.

Arnold served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was wounded in action and honorably discharged.

In his youth he was an avid talented baseball player, a left handed pitcher and played for the Murphy Club.

A former Vice-President of the old New Bedford Institution for Savings Bank, he started his career as bank messenger and rose through the ranks.

A long time member of the First Congregational Church of Lunds Corner, he served as treasurer and auditor for many years.

Arnold was a member of the Men's Luncheon Club, the New Bedford Country Club where he enjoyed golf for many many years and was an accomplished model boat builder.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Florence M. (Simpson) Griffiths; his sister, Mabel Filipek of Fairhaven; three nieces; two grandnieces and a grandnephew.

Visitation will take place at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford on Tuesday, July 31st from 2-4 P.M. in the afternoon. His burial is private.
