Obituary

Mr. Richard Scott Tobey, a resident of East Haven Connecticut for the past 25 years and formerly of Medford, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home on Saturday, July 21, 2012. He was the beloved husband of the late Jill (Zarnetske) Tobey.

Born in Stoneham on December 1, 1960, he was the beloved son of Beverly C. (Christensen) and the late Roger W. Tobey.

If you knew Rick - you knew a he always had a new plan or venture in the works. Rick loved music of all kinds, and he loved to cook. He loved to start up new businesses, and in a few of his careers he was a chef, an exterminator and a giver of massages.
Rick was a man with a huge heart and a rough exterior. He was overly generous when he was in a position to be so - and would gladly share his last dime with a friend in need. But you did not win a place in his heart easily.

25 years ago, Rick was working at the Chapel at Yale University when he met Jill Zarnetske. She found that place in his heart, and was the love of his life. When Jill passed away earlier this year, Rick made plans to fulfill their dreams of traveling by RV to Alaska with the intent of leaving her ashes there. We are all saddened that he was not able to make that dream happen.

Ricks ashes will be coming home to Medford, and a future date the family will travel with him to an ocean site for a private memorial service.

Rick leaves behind a large family. He was the devoted brother of Carla C. Goossen of Medford, Bruce W. and his wife Diane W. Tobey of Medford, Nancy E. Tobey and her husband David S. Cogen of Ayer, David A. and his Fiance Patricia A. Gallagher of Melrose, Carol E. and her husband Charles Somers of Roslindale and Barbara J. Fazio of North Andover. He is also survived by his nephews Gary Goossen and Liam Somers, and neices Anneke Goossen, Jennifer Tobey DeVone, Melissa Tobey, Christa Tobey and Katherine Fazio as well as many cousins and grand nieces and nephews. Funeral services were privately held. Arrangements were entrusted to the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home of Medford. Donations in Richards memory may be made to the Christian Youth Conference, C/O Bob Jope, CYC Dean, 16 Lindsey St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
