Frank A Tortorella, a longtime Medford resident and Mustang Hall of Fame member died peacefully in the company of his family after a brief illness. He was 87.
Born in Boston, the son of the late Frank and Josephine Tortorella, Frank lived all of his life in Medford until recently moving to Stoneham. He worked in the Security Division of Draper Labs in Cambridge and had previously been a tobacco salesman. An outstanding athlete, Frank earned 8 letters in high school, playing baseball, soccer and basketball. A member of Medford High’s class of 1943, Frank was inducted into the Medford Mustang Hall of Fame in 2010. After school he played for the Andre Chiefs and the semi-pro Hobo’s. For many years he umpired Medford Babe Ruth with his dear friend, Jim Scali.
The beloved husband of Phyllis J. (Penta) with whom he shared 56 years of marriage, Frank was a devoted father to Ann Tortorella, Frank "Butch" Tortorella and Michael Tortorella. He leaves his loving grandchildren, Jackie Tortorella and April Renzella. He was a dear brother to William Tortorella and the late Victor, Sarah, Josephine and Louie.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday morning, July 21st, from 8:30 thru 11:30 followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, at Noon. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
