CHICOPEE - Arthur L. "Art" Jefferson, 52, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, July 14, 2012. He passed suddenly into Eternal Life at Saint Marys Hospital of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Merced, California on October 6, 1959, a beloved son of the late Leland W. and Haruko (Miki) Jefferson of Chicopee. The son of an airman, his family settled in Chicopee in 1972 and he graduated in 1978 from Chicopee Comprehensive High School. Art was an electrician for over 20 years and received numerous certificates from Community Colleges and Technical Institutes for the trade. For the past five years, he was employed for Republic ITS in Billerica, MA. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 103, a member of NESC Motocross, a USBC Bowler and was active with the Chicopee Comp High School Alumni Band. He was a very family oriented man who always made it a point to let the people he loved know how special they were to him. He enjoyed his 36 years of riding motocross. Art passed away while participating in one of his passions in life, providing his services as Paddock Concierge for the National Pro Motocross Outdoor Circuit. He was also an avid bowler from a young age who truly enjoyed his weekly bowling leagues. He was an active person who spent all of his time living life to the fullest. Arthur brought light to any situation with his uncanny wit, joyful demeanor, and contagious smile. His giving heart is one of the reasons why he was loved so much by so many, along with his ability to make each and every person feel important. He will not only be missed by family and friends, but also by his dog, Dylan, who showed him nothing but love and loyalty. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend of 33 years, Linda M. (Bienvenue) Jefferson; his loving daughters, Ashley Jefferson and her companion, Charles Gilchrest, III, of Boylston, MA and Shaina Jefferson of Chicopee; his dear brother, Michael S. Jefferson and his wife, Karen, of Agawam; his dear sisters, Helen L. Pandoli and her companion, Harry Holmes, of Enfield, CT and Marcia J. O'Hara and her husband, T. Daniel O'Hara, of Lincoln University, PA; and his many adoring nephews and nieces. His funeral will be held on Saturday morning, July 21, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will be private at the convenience of his family. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. His family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Mayo Clinic - Department of Development/ Neurological, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905 or to Lifesource, Suite 315 South, 2550 University Avenue West, St. Paul, MN 55114.
