Katzman, Challon Wayne 86 of Louisville passed away Saturday July 14, 2012 at Jewish Hospital.
Born on January 14, 1926 Challon was one of two sons born to the late Henry A. Katzman and the former Edda Mae Zickel in Louisville, Ky.
He was the grandson of Johannes R. Katzmann who brought the Katzmann family from Germany to the United States in 1865.
He was a member of Okolona Christian Church and formerly an elder at Newburg Christian Church. Challon was a graduate of Okolona
High School and a World War II veteran who served in Germany. He retired from Naval Ordnance. Challon was a founding member and assistant
chief of the Black Mudd Fire Department in Louisville. He was a member of Okolona Masonic Lodge #853. Challon loved to square dance. He and his wife Jeri, were 47-year members and 8-time presidents of Cardinal Twisters square dance club and members of the Kentucky Square Dance Association. Challon is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Jerline Duvall; his son Danny (Kim); and two grandchildren, Amanda and Stuart. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Owen Funeral Home-Jeffersontown 9318 Taylorsville Rd, followed by entombment at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family asks that expressions of sympathy be made through donations to Okolona Christian Church, 10801 Faithful Way, Louisville, KY 40229.
