SPRINGFIELD - Edmond J. "Ed" Hebert, 84, of the Pine Point section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Friday, July 13, 2012. He passed into Eternal Life from his home surrounded by the love and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on September 29, 1927, a beloved son of the late Emile and Alice (Dionne) Hebert. He was raised in Springfield, attended Technical High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and attained the rank of Private First Class. He received the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan) and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his military service, he returned to Springfield and was first employed as a gauge inspector at the former Springfield Armory. He later worked for many years as a mail handler at the former Bulk Mail Center on Tapley Street in Springfield, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend of 48 years, Gloria E. (Roy) Hebert who was Called Home on July 31, 2000; and his beloved grandson, Jack Edmond Hebert, who was Called Home on December 15, 2006. He leaves his loving sons, Daniel C. Hebert and his wife, Janice, Gary J. Hebert and his wife, Carol, and Brian E. Hebert and his wife, Cynthia, all of Springfield, Roy S. Hebert and his wife, Jeanette, and Mark E. Hebert and his wife, Lori, all of Belchertown; his four cherished granddaughters whom he adored, Mary Elizabeth Hebert, Jessica Hebert, Stephanie Hebert and Briana Hebert; his cherished great-grandson, Tyler Hebert; his dear brother, Charles Hebert and his wife, Maryann,of Kansas; his dear sister-in-law, Carol St. George of Bristol, CT; and his many dear nephews and nieces. His family would like to thank Gary and Donnis from Loving Care and the staff at the Veterans’ Administration Center in Leads, MA, for their assistance and compassion given to Ed during his time of need. His funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, July 18, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 405 Boston Road, Springfield, MA 01109. His burial with Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Holyoke Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
