Holbrook – William F. “Bill” Ryan, Jr. 90 died Thursday July 12, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Rosemarie (DiPiero) Ryan.
Born in Boston and raised in Jamaica Plain and Houghs Neck he was the son of the late William F. Sr. and Ellen (Sullivan) Ryan and a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School.
Bill was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific with the US Navy from 1942–1946.
Before his move to Holbrook, where he had been a resident for over 57 years, and he along with his wife Rosemarie had raised their six children, Bill had been a ”Necker”, a longtime resident of the Houghs Neck area of Quincy.
For over 30 years Bill had worked as a brakeman for Conrail railroad, retiring in 1986.
Bill was truly a family man and valued the times spent surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and could be always be found enjoying the sounds of “big band music”.
In addition to his devoted wife Rosemarie he is survived by his loving children, Audrey Ryan of Tampa, FL, Arlene Gross and her husband Chuck of Hanson, Michael Ryan and his wife Darlene of Plymouth, Maureen Bottorff and her husband Andrew of Lake Dallas, TX, Lynne Segura and her husband Alex of Quincy and Lori Ryan-Gulick of Lakeville. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Charles Ryan.
His services will be held Tuesday July 17 at 8:30 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte.58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 10 AM in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1015 Sea St. Quincy, MA. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Monday July 16 from 4-8 PM.
