Obituary

Leo L. Hamlin, Jr., 85, of Worcester died Thursday, July 12th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center – University Campus. He leaves his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth J. (Hogan) Hamlin and a son, Alan S. Hamlin of Long Beach, California.
Mr. Hamlin was born in Burlington, Vermont the son of Leo L. Hamlin, Sr. and Anna (Comeau) Hamlin and was raised in Pittsfield. Leo worked at the Telegram & Gazette for 25 years, retiring in 1987 as the Financial Administrator. Mr. Hamlin graduated in 1944 from St. Joseph’s High School in Pittsfield. While at St. Joseph’s High School he excelled at sports, winning 8 varsity letters and was named to all Western Mass and all Berkshire County Football and Baseball Teams.
Leo was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946 he moved to Worcester. In 1947 he won the New England Boys Club Championship with the Ionic Ave. Boys Club. Mr. Hamlin was a member of the Numismatic Society and a former member of the American Legion Post 435. Because of the positive effects of his youthful experience with the CYC (formerly the FMTA) Leo became a frequent contributor to the CYC’s Youth Program.
Funeral services are private. Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery, Pittsfield at a later date. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is directing arrangements.
