Charles P. Gourlis Sr., a lifelong resident of Woburn passed away sudden and unexpectedly on July 11th, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, he was 74. Charles was the beloved husband of the late Jane E. (McCarthy). Born in Woburn he was the son of the late Annie (Mele) and Antonio Gourlis.
Charles was a 1955 graduate of Woburn High School. He was a retired elementary school teacher and taught for more than 25 years in the Billerica Public School System, primarily at the Parker Elementary School. He enjoyed listening to music, writing and was an avid golfer. He had a strong faith and was an active parishioner of St. Charles Church his entire life and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his children, Elena Gourlis Drane and her husband Charles of Reading, Elizabeth Ann Gourlis of Philadelphia, PA, and Charles P. Gourlis Jr. of Miami, FL. He was the loving grandfather of Emily and Ali Drane. Brother of Rudy Gentile of MA and Charlotte Troy of SC.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Saturday, July 14th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Friday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
