Bernardine M. Wilson
...volunteer at Saints Medical; 91
TEWKSBURY – Bernardine M. “Bernie” (Boyle) Wilson, age 91, a former volunteer at Saints Medical Center, died Wednesday evening, July 11, at her Tewksbury home, following a long period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Elwood R. “Bill” Wilson, who died inn 1994.
She was born in Philadelphia, PA, on April 23, 1921, one of five children of the late George and Ella (McLoughlin) Boyle. She was raised in Philadelphia, and attended Parochial Schools. She met and married her husband and became a “Navy Wife” moving her family across the U.S. and even to Guam during his 20 year enlistment.
The Wilsons settled in Tewksbury in 1960, where they have remained.
“Bernie” was the face of St. John’s Hospital during her 35 years as a volunteer, with her most visible job as information desk volunteer in the lobby as Saint John’s which would become Saints Medical Center. She worked in dozens of roles during her years at the hospital. In later years she became well known in the senior community at the Tewksbury Senior Drop In Center, where she was also a member of the Golden Age Club.
She was a communicant of St. William’s Church.
She is survived by three children, Karyn Mumma and her husband James of Bristol, RI, Colleen Wilson and her partner Salvatore Todaro of Tewksbury, with whom “Bernie” was residing, and David E. Wilson and his wife Cynthia (Higgins) of Lowell; a brother, Fr. George J. Boyle of PA; eight grandchildren, Meagan Donahue of Townsend, Courtney Wilson of Lowell, Kathleen Wilson of Woodbury, MN, Kacey Wilson of Portland, ME, Christopher Logan and Timothy Logan both of Lowell, James Mumma of No. Dartmouth, MA, Brian Mumma of Smithfield, RI; nine great grandchildren, Dayna, Tayla, Jack, Patrick, Connor, Matthew, Daniel, Gregory, and Gracie.
She was also mother of the late Terrance Wilson; grandmother of the late Terry Wilson; and sister of the late Mary Smyth, Thomas Boyle and Helen Slocum.

Her Funeral Mass was Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in St. William’s Church, 1251 Main St. (Rte 38) Tewksbury. Interment followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105, are appreciated.
