Obituary

CHICOPEE – Emily “Meme” (Lapa) Gevry, 88, of the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 9, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at South Hadley surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born at home in Chicopee on July 29, 1923, a beloved daughter of the late Jozef and Marya (Chmura) Lapa. She was raised and schooled in Chicopee and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was last employed for 24 years as a machine operator at the former A. G. Spalding Company in Chicopee. She previously worked at the former American Bosch in Springfield and at the former Chicopee Undergarment Company. She was a loving woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Besides her parents and siblings, she was predeceased by: her loving son, Stephen R. Gevry, who was Called Home on July 4, 1949; and her beloved husband and best friend, Marcel R. “Bud” Gevry, who was Called Home on August 30, 2005. Bud and Emily were married on May 30, 1946 at Saint Stanislaus Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 59 years of happiness together. She leaves: her loving children, Kenneth A. Gevry and his wife, Mary, of Chicopee, Marcia A. Pimpare and her life partner, David A. Touchette, of Chicopee and Linda A. Morin and her husband, Mark, of Falmouth, MA; her four cherished grandchildren, Tanya Gay and her husband, Albert, Tracey Kavanagh and her husband, Byron, Keith Benoit and his wife, Maggie, and Kevin Benoit and his wife, Trish; her seven cherished great-grandchildren, Myranda, Emily and Owen Gay, Booker and Malley Kavanagh and Eric and Emily Benoit; and her many dear nephews and nieces. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday afternoon, July 16, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Massachusetts Affiliate, 89 South Street, Suite 406, Boston, MA 02111.
