Obituary

Clarinda Baptista Neves, 75, of New Bedford died Monday July 9, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Sebastian Neves.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Ana Baptista, she lived in Senegal for many years before immigrating to the United States in 1982, residing in Pawtucket, RI, and New Bedford.

She was a member of the Bisca Tournament Club.

Survivors include three children, Ana L. Moniz and her husband Alain, Marcel Baptista and his wife Marguerite, and Nicole Baptista, all of New Bedford; her son-in-law, Humberto Lopes of Pawtucket; her companion, Belmiro Santos of Providence; a stepdaughter, Domingas Santos of Providence; a niece whom she raised as a daughter, Samira Habib of New Bedford; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Fatima Lopes, grandmother of the late Eric Lopes, and sister of the late Alfonso Baptista, Maria DaSilva, Julia DaSilva, and Alicia Baptista.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 8:30 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery.
