Tucker, Wilburn "Tuck", 92, of Louisville, passed away July 8, 2012. He was born August 21, 1919.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bernie and Margaret Tucker; his sister Beulah Scott; his first wife, and mother of his children, Irene Collins Tucker; and his second wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Burgess Tucker.
"Tuck" was a graduate of Grove Center High School in Morganfield, KY. He then served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a Tech Sergeant in the 348th Bombardment Squadron. He flew 52 missions and received the EAME Ribbon, Air Medal, 2 Oak leaf Clusters and 3 Bronze Stars.
He and Irene moved to Louisville after the War. He worked in Charlestown, IN. for DuPont Paint. "Tuck" then went to work for DuPont in the Power House and served as Union Stewart for 35 years. Having grown up on a farm he loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was President of Cardinal Campers during his early retirement years. He also loved Florida where he was stationed in the military. He drove a school bus for JCPS for many of his retirement years and then sold R.V.'s for Tom Stinnett in Jeffersonville, IN. He was a member of Shively Baptist Church for over 60 years and served on various committees.
"Tuck" is survived by his wife, Mary Pierce Tucker; children, Ron (Donna), Larry (Debbie), and Kathy McDonald (Larry); stepdaughter, Sue Thompson; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 11:00AM, Friday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway with burial to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens, West. Visitation will be Thursday 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00PM at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Shively Baptist Church General Fund.
