Obituary

Gary K. Kennan, 63, of Charlton died Sunday, July 8th in Brigham & Women’s Hospital. He leaves his wife of 21 years, Marilyn (Cook) Kennan; his mother, Irene (Portier) Kennan of Brookfield; a son, Jay Kennan and his wife Leah of Charlton; a step son, Ryan O’Toole of Charlotte, NC; a step daughter, Amy Brodeur and her husband, Stephen of Charlton; two brothers, Dana Kennan and his wife, Charlene of West Brookfield and Karl Kennan and his companion, Margaret Desroches of Palmer; six grandchildren, Molly Brodeur, Jacob Brodeur, Emily Brodeur, Harry Kennan, Thomas Kennan and Gwendolyn Kennan all of Charlton.
Mr. Kennan was born in Ware the son of Harry Kennan. Gary graduated from North Brookfield High School and Quinsigamond Community College. In many ways, Gary was a self-taught man with in-depth knowledge in a wide range of areas.
He worked for A&M Tool and Die Company of Southbridge for many years, retiring in 2002. Gary was an avid fisherman and a long-time member of the Hamilton Rod & Gun Club in Sturbridge. He loved spending time with his grandkids and traveling the back roads of New England with his loving wife. His up beat positive outlook on life was an inspiration to his many friends and to all who knew him.
His funeral is Wednesday, July 11th with a service at 11:00 AM in First Congregational Church of North Brookfield, 144 North Main Street, North Brookfield. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours are Tuesday, July 10th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Gary’s memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
