Obituary

John E. Janes of Abington, passed away peacefully on July 6th at home, after a brief courageous battle with lung cancer at the age of 78.

He was born and brought up in Brockton, son of the late Albert and Edna (Pickett) Janes and he was educated in Brockton.

John lived in Abington for 53 years with his wife of 45 years the Late Cynthia (Hannigan) Janes, where they raised their 3 daughters, Cynthia Clinton, Patricia Janes and the late Cathie Applebaum

He served his country for 4 years in the United States Navy on the USS Turner (DD834), as a Fire Control Technician Third Class. After the war he worked many years at the Stoughton Tool & Die, as a Quality Control Manager and prior to his retirement at Exergy in Hanson.
John cherished his home and was a wonderful provider for his family. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and easy going manner and how he was willing to help anyone. His ability to fix anything was amazing, but he is best known for his incredible bird carvings and for always doing something.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and woodworking, carvings birds from wood also liked working in his yard and taking day trip with the Council on Aging.

He is survived by his 2 daughters, Cynthia Clinton, Patricia Janes, his brother, Philip Janes, his sisters, Gloria Connors, Lois Janes, Carol DeWolf, Betty Morin and Barbara Pierce, his longtime companion Nancy Carlson, his grandchildren, Michael Rotatori, Patrick Clinton, Hailey Daynes, Matthew Applebaum, his great- grandchildren, Sofia Rotatori, Madison, Dillon and Matthew, Jr. Applebaum .He was also the father of the late Cathie Applebaum and brother of the late Richard and Robert Janes.

His services will be held on Wednesday July 11th at 10:00AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St.(RT 58 at the Rotary circle) Whitman, MA. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery, Brockton. Visitation will be on Tuesday July 10th from 5:00-8:00PM. Donations in his name may be sent to Boys Town, 13940 Gutowski Rd., Boys Town, NE 68010-7535 www.boystown.org
