James C. Trainor, Sr., 80, of Worcester died Friday, July 6th at St. Vincent Hospital. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Theresa M. (Witkowski) Trainor; two daughters, Mary Fox and her husband, Craig and Patricia Peterson and her husband, Jon; two sons, James C. Trainor, Jr. and John Trainor; seven grandchildren, John Trainor, Jr., Ryan Peterson, Oliver Fox, Hannah Fox, Matthew Trainor, James Peterson and Kelly Peterson. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph Trainor, a sister, Mary Cronin and two brothers, Francis Trainor and Peter Trainor.
Jim was born in Worcester the son of Peter and Marion (Riding) Trainor. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School, Worcester and St. Anselm College, Manchester, NH. Mr. Trainor served in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman during the Korean War.
During his 43 years working at St. Vincent Hospital he worked in the laboratory as Chief Technologist of Special Hematology. He advanced his career as supervisor of Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Safety office, Radiology Manager, retiring in 1997, as Director of Radiology. Jim also worked for the Food and Drug Administration from 1964-1966.
He also was an instructor of Nuclear Medicine at Middlesex Community College and Northeastern University. Jim served many positions in the Society of Nuclear Medicine including Director of the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board. Mr. Trainor was a member of the Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council and was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Bishop O’Rielly Assembly.
His funeral is Tuesday, July 10 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, July 9th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue.
