Obituary

Harry G. Takis, 87, of Salem, husband of the late Cosima N. (Perroni) Takis with whom he shared 41 years of marriage, died with his family by his side on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Grosvenor Park in Salem.

Mr. Takis was born in Salem on April 11, 1925 son of the late Anthony and Catherine (Marvagis) Avarnitakis. He was raised and educated in Salem and enlisted into the U.S. Army on August 13, 1943. He served with Btry D 132 AAA Gun Bn in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, receiving his honorable discharge on March 24, 1946. Following the war he pursued his education and graduated from Franklin Institute of Technology.

Harry was employed as a pipefitter foreman until his retirement in 1984, maintaining a 60 year membership with Local 537 in Boston. He enjoyed working with his hands, designing and making Tiffany Lamps. He was a loving father who devoted his life to creating a home for his children and spending time at his lake house in NH with his 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Harry served 2 terms with the Salem Conservation Commission, was a member of the K. of C. Veragua Council 76 in Salem, and a devoted member of the former St. Mary’s Italian Church in Salem and its’ Holy Name Society.

Harry is survived by his children and their spouses, Harry John and Maureen Takis of Georgetown, Dominick A. and Susan Takis of Lynn, David G. and Roberta Takis of East Wakefield, NH, Sarah J. Takis-Welch and Richard Welch of Salem with whom he resided, Nancy J. Takis-Conway and Kevin Conway of Lynn, Anthony C. and Karen Takis of Ipswich; a sister, Anne Filias of Manchester by the Sea; a sister-in-law, Nancy Perroni of Salem, a brother-in-law, John Perroni and his wife Sylvia of Manchester, NH; his grandchildren, Anthony, Joshua, Stacey, Rebecca, Dominick, Ryan, David, Niko, Cosima, Kevin, Sara, Matthew and Rachel; and many nieces and nephews. His was predeceased by his sister Catherine Davekos.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 9 a.m. from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Anne Church, 292 Jefferson Ave., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Monday, July 9, 2012 from 4 to 8 pm.
