George C. Hammack, Jr., formerly of Jackson, MS died Friday July 6 at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury, MA after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 17, 1922 in Brownsville MS to the late George C. Hammack Sr. and Mary Almedia Hammack (Bankston). He was the beloved husband of the late Frances Hammack (Webster). He served in the United States Army Air Corps 38th Bombardment Group during World War II and owned and operated an automotive repair shop for over 30 years until his retirement. He was an avid hunter, and developed into a skilled gunsmith, producing numerous custom-made rifles. He is survived by his daughter, Annette Martello of Groton, MA, his son David M. Hammack of Florence MS, stepchildren Lynn Miller of Ooltewah TN, Jane Hanks of Vicksburg MS and Steve Webster of Brandon MS, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son George C. Hammack, III.
