TAUNTON - Sister Maria Teixeira, 94, died at Marian Manor and returned to God on July 3, 2012.
Born in Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Matilda (Gomes) Teixeira.
Sister entered the Sisters of St. Dorothy on Nov. 30, 1938, living 74 years as a dedicated religious.
Sister Maria loved little children and spent many years teaching at Mt. Carmel in New Bedford.
Her other teaching ministries were carried out in Newport, Bristol and East Providence, RI as well as Taunton.
Sr. Maria was a caregiver to our disabled sisters from 1967 to 1992, as well as a sacristan.
For many years, Sister also took care of the altar at St. Anthony Church.
Upon becoming medically unable to live at Villa Fatima, Sr. Maria took residence at Marian Manor.
While residing at the Manor, she participated in all the activities programs, and especially enjoyed playing bingo with her new found friends.
The Sisters of St. Dorothy wish to thank the entire staff at Marian Manor for the loving care given to our beloved sister.
We will be eternally grateful to you.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony Church on Saturday, July 7th at 12 Noon.
The family will receive visitors at the church from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, prior to the mass.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marian Manor, Activities Fund, 33 Summer St. Taunton, MA 02780.
