Obituary

LAWRENCE - Eugene F. Walsh, 87 of Lawrence passed away peacefully on Monday July 2, 2012 at Mary Immaculate Nursing and Restorative Center in Lawrence.

Born and educated in Lawrence, he was the son of Patrick and Abigail (Riordan) Walsh and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, 1942. He served in the U.S. National Guard during World War II. He began his career at Pratt Whitney and held supervisory positions at Raytheon and Honeywell. At the time of his retirement he was a buyer at the Greater Lawrence Sanitary District.

He is survived by his brother John A. Walsh of Methuen, MA. and leaves his nieces and nephews, Patricia and William Boutilier, Ann-Marie and John Giarrusso, Jr., Sheila and Robert Allan, Cornelius and Karen Casey, Eugene and Dianna Casey, John and Maryann Walsh, Stephen and Catherine Walsh, Gail and Paul DiPietro, Kevin and Christine Lavoie, Kathleen and Donald Greenwood and David and Lissa Walsh.

He also leaves several great nieces and nephews and several great, great nieces and nephews. Eugene is pre-deceased by sister Anna Casey and her husband Cornelius M. Casey. Gail Lavoie, wife of Robert Lavoie; and brother David Walsh and his wife Gertrude and also his sister-in-law, Ruth Walsh.

Eugene was a voracious reader and great historian who thoroughly enjoyed discussing current events and politics. He loved to share old time stories with his guests and was a faithful fan of the Red Sox, Patriots and other professional sports teams. He was a longtime member of the Arlington Athletic and Social Club.

The family extends sincere thanks to the medical staff and nursing staff of Lawrence General Hospital for the excellent care they provided Gene during his hospitalizations throughout the past few years; and most recently to the nursing and administrative staff at the Mary Immaculate Rehabilitation Center for their extreme kindness and compassionate care.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours for family and friends will be held on Friday from 4:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA 01844. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00a.m. in St. Mary’s Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery also in Lawrence.
