Tompkins, Roy Jr., died July 2, 2012 with his family by his side at Summerfield Heath and Rehab where he had been since May 29th.
Roy was born January 12, 1924 to the late Roy and Ida (Cain) Tompkins. Everyone who knew him knew what a meticulous person he was. From his work life to his dress, everything was always perfect. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. He loved to share war stories with family and friends. He was a career tool and die maker, owning two businesses during his work life. Family was always very important to him. He loved hosting and cooking family holiday meals. The more people at the table the more fun it was for him. Roy and Bernice were fortunate to have been able to travel the world together. They liked to "re-visit" their destinations by looking at the many pictures they took. One of Roy's most prized possessions was the home he designed and built in 1966. He enjoyed it throughout the end of his life. His cat "Garfield" was his dear companion. Rick and Deni often joked that he loved the cat more than them. Roy loved to sit in his garage and watch it rain. There was nothing he couldn't build or repair. He will truly be missed by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by parents and precious cat, "Garfield".
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 64 years, Bernice (Drury) Tompkins; son, Rick Tompkins (Faye); daughter, Deni Harris (Mike); grandchildren, Todd Tompkins (Rhonda), Eric Tompkins, Ashley Freiberger (Tyler); three great grandchildren; a great great grandson; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and sister-in-law, Peggy Eversole (Dean).
The family would like to thank Summerfield Health & Rehab for their care, respect, and dignity provided to Roy during his stay there. A special thanks to Dr. Jane Cornett and Dr. Stacy Mandrola for their wonderful care.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial will be arranged at a later date.
In lieu of flowers all donations may be made to the Kentucky Humane Society 241 Steedly Drive, 40214 in Roy's Memory.
