Wareham: Joseph F. “Joe” Turnbull, 70, died peacefully under the care and comfort of his family on Saturday, June 30, 2012 following a brief illness.
He was born in Boston on June 13, 1942 the son of the late Joseph A. Turnbull and Catherine (McElroy) Turnbull.
Joe was the loving and devoted father of Matthew J. Turnbull of Leadville, CO; Daniel J. Turnbull of Wayland and Rebecca C. Turnbull of Brooklyn, NY. Brother of the late Catherine Turnbull. Also survived by his former wife Marilyn (Tamburro) Turnbull of Wayland and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Joe spent his formative years in Milton and resided in Wayland for over 30 years before moving to Wareham several years ago. He was a graduate from Boston College High School and received his BA in Physics from Boston College. Joe continued his education and received both his MA and MS in Engineering from Harvard University. He retired in 1998 after 30 years of dedicated service as an Aerospace Engineer with Draper Labs in Cambridge and was associated with the space program for NASA. He loved to be at the ocean especially sailing on Cape Cod. After his retirement he became associated with independent film making in the local area. He was a great supporter of the American Red Cross blood donation program. He was a devoted and loving father and enjoyed spending time with them and his many close friends.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Wayland.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 9:00 am followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Good Shepherd Parish at St. Zepherin’s Church, 99 Main St (Route 27), Wayland.
Interment will follow in the Turnbull family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Roslindale.
In lieu of flowers his family suggests memorial gifts in Joe’s memory may be sent to the American Red Cross of Mass Bay, 139 Main St, Cambridge, MA 02142 and would be appreciated.
