Obituary

Mattapoisett – Betty May (Campbell) Ruggles, 84, of Mattapoisett passed away at her home, as comfortable as possible and surrounded by her loving family. Betty is survived by her husband of 55 years, John Edgerton Ruggles.

Mrs. Ruggles was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Clarence Malcolm Campbell and Mary Parker Crowley Campbell, and resided in Mattapoisett most of her life. She was a member of The First Unitarian Church in New Bedford, where she was also a member of the Woman’s Alliance and the Book Reading Club. Betty was an avid reader and a regular weekly visitor to all the local libraries.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son: John Wilde Ruggles, II of Mattapoisett and his four children, John Clinton Ruggles of West Bridgewater, MA, Justin Taylor Ruggles, Jared Edgerton Ruggles, Joshua Parker Ruggles, all of Brockton, MA, two daughters: Virginia Beatrice Corcoran of Englewood, FL and Betty May Govoni, Jr., of Middleboro; a sister, Eleanor Begley of New Bedford; two half-brothers: Malcolm Campbell of Mattapoisett and Stewart Campbell of FL; and several nieces and nephews.

At Betty’s request a Memorial Service will be held at Seamen’s Bethel, at a date sometime in the future.
