Obituary

BEVERLY FARMS: Our dear son, brother, father, uncle and friend, Robert S. Gray, died unexpectedly on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 53 years of age. Born in September of 1958, Rob lived his entire life in Beverly Farms and was a cherished member of the community. A devoted family man, Robert worked hard during the week to provide for his family and spent the weekends laughing the night away with family and friends; his whole-hearted laugh and one-of-a-kind sense of humor were well known throughout town. A non-traditional man, Rob’s signature straw hat and hand-written Christmas Cards made him the unique spirit that he was.
Rob was a hard-working man with many talents. In high school, he was widely known as a fierce hockey player and was Captain of the Beverly High Varsity Hockey team his senior year. He was introduced to carpentry at a young age and honed his skills over his thirty year career, becoming an accomplished carpenter with the reputable County Homes, Inc. He loved his job and his co-workers and boasted that he had a job in which he could have fun every day – something that was very important to him. He was lucky enough to work with many of his long-term friends, whom he loved and cherished. In his spare time, Rob enjoyed fishing, cooking, watching sports, walking in the woods, hunting, bird watching and working on his novel.
Robert is survived by his beloved and devoted family: his father, Warren; his siblings, Nancy and David, his sister-in-law, Cyndy; and his nephews, Daniel and Joseph and his wife Michele. He also leaves behind the mother of his children and former spouse of 20 years, Beth; their beloved children, Jessica and David, daughter-in-law, Cecilia and grandson, Jacob. Robert joins two beloved family members: his mother, Gerry and his brother, Richard, also deceased.
Even in death, Robert’s giving nature shines through in his decision to donate his organs to someone in need. He was a loving, humble, generous and giving man that will be missed terribly.
His memorial service will be held on Monday, July 2nd in the St. John’s Episcopal Church, 705 Hale St., Beverly Farms at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
