Lee W. Jones, 83, of Ocilla, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla, Georgia.
Funeral services were held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Pinetta Baptist Church with interment in the Church Cemetery in Irwin County with the Rev. David Barton and the Rev. Rob Dowdle officiating. Visitation will be inside Pinetta Baptist Church from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour. Honors were rendered by DNR Law Enforcement Honor Guard.
Mr. Jones was born December 28, 1928 in Irwin County to the late Archie Jones and Abbie York Jones Mulkey. He lived in the community all his life, retiring from the Department of Natural Resources where he served as a Game Warden for many years and also was a Baliff for the Irwin County Count System. He was a member of Pinetta Baptist Church in Irwin County. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed farming, especially pecan trees. Coming from a family of 13 children, he loved people.
Mr. Jones is survived by his children and their spouses: Clark Jones, Candace J. and Howard Jordan and Clay and Melissa Jones, all of Ocilla, Georgia; five grandchildren, Jacob (Emily) Nolan, CC Nolan, Cypris Jones, Alexandra Jones, and Logan Jones, all of Ocilla, Georgia and 1 great-grandchild, Kenley Grace Nolan; sisters: Evoline McLean, Tina Hunnicutt, Jerri Clements, Christine Loraine, Linda Brantley and Barbara McDonald; brothers: A.C. Jones, J.B. Jones, and George Mulkey; daughter-in-law, Lynn Jones. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Yvonne Jones, brother, Bud Mulkey and sister, Ruby Turner.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Pinetta Church Cemetery Fund or the American Diabetes Foundation for Georgia Research, 1211 Whispering Pines Road, Albany, GA 31707.
