Obituary

Wilkins, David E. “Butch” “Papaw”, 70, left us on Saturday, June 23, 2012, to celebrate his new life in Heaven. Butch was a member of Shively Christian Church and a member of the Action Class where bondings of Christian friends are more like family. He loved working at Grundy Mountain Mission School and White Mills Christian Camp, until his battle with cancer. He retired from Manning Equipment and served in the Army Reserves for five years. Butch kept us laughing with funny stories and humor. He was a collector of rubber ducks and had a Johnson Bible College degree in amateur Photography, an avid UK fan and played round ball at Ahrens Trade High School, church and private leagues. His precious love lives in all our hearts. He was born on February 16, 1942 to the late Pauline and Nicholas Wilkins. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 28 years, Delores Wilkins; children, Rachel McCoy (Robert); Terry Gibson (Karen), Tom Gibson (Terrie), and Nathan Wilkins (Nikki); grandchildren, Ryan, Sara, Trevor, Brandon, Elizabeth, Kacie, Stephanie, Tim, and Alex; great grandchildren, Nick and Ava; brothers, Al Wilkins (Glenna), Steve Wilkins (Jackie), and Pete Wilkins (Susie); sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Aaron Ellis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Our family, church family, doctors and nurses of the Oncology floor at Baptist East Hospital, Hosparus, and the singer; our last days with Butch were honored and blessed with tender loving care beyond belief. We were truly touched by Angels of love. A Homecoming Celebration will be held 3pm Sunday July 1, 2012 at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway. Visitation will be Saturday 2-8 and Sunday noon-3 at the funeral home.
