Gloria J. Tashjian, 63, Adjunct Assistant Professor in Mathematical Sciences at WPI, died at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home on Saturday, June 23, 2012. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Anahid (Balikian) and Hurant Tashjian. She leaves her sister Emily J. Tashjian. She also leaves an aunt Mary Tashjian and several cousins. Gloria received her undergraduate degree at UMass Amherst and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She earned a Ph.D. in mathematics at Wesleyan University. In 1977-78, she did research in Prague, Czechoslovakia under the National Academy of Sciences Exchange Program. Gloria was a member of the Armenian Church of the Martyrs. She was also a member and past matron of the Daughters of Vartan.
Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Wednesday, June 27, from 5-7 pm. At 6:30 pm, the Daughters of Vartan will perform their service. The funeral will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel on Thursday, June 28 at 11 am. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Whitinsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Park Congregational Church, 111 Park Ave., Worcester MA 01609 or to Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester MA 01609.
