Obituary

Francis J. Ferro, “Uncle Frank”, age 91, a lifelong resident of Winchester, passed away at Winchester Hospital on June 23, 2012, following a brief illness. Born, raised and educated in Winchester, Mr. Ferro was the son of the late Giuseppe and Rosa (Fresca) Ferro. He attended Winchester High School and was a long-time employee in the metal manufacturing industry. A World War II Army veteran, Frank was a member of AmVets of Somerville as well as the Dilboy VFW Post #529, AmVets Post #4 and the American Legion Post #19 in Somerville. In his spare time, “Uncle Frank”, as he was affectionately known, enjoyed spending time at The Community Family Center in Medford, oil painting, playing guitar and listening to Italian music. An animal lover, he also enjoyed growing vegetables and gardening.

He was the beloved husband of the late Mary R. (Appolloni) Ferro, and the dear brother of Charles Ferro and his wife Marion of West Roxbury, formerly of Brookline, and the late Peter, Salvatore, Joseph, Christopher and Angelo Ferro. Uncle Frank is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews and the caretakers at The Community Family in Medford. His funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St. Winchester on Wed., June 27 @ 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St. Winchester at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Tues from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Community Family/Medford Center 106 Wyllis Ave. Everett MA 02145.
