WINDHAM, NH – Catherine M. (Allain) Beland Dion, 110, passed away peacefully on Thursday June 21, 2012 at the Grace House in Windham, NH.
Born and educated in Prince Edward Island, Canada, she was the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Gaudet) Allain. Catherine worked in the Lawrence Textile Mills, after immigrating from Canada at the age of 18. Later she was a homemaker caring for her children, and was also a cafeteria worker at the Lawrence Vocational School after her retirement.
She was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Parish in Lawrence, where she witnessed the Church’s opening and closing. Catherine was the recipient of the Boston Post Cane Recognition Award for being the oldest person living in Derry New Hampshire where she resided with her granddaughter Beverly. She enjoyed playing cards, especially 45’s, bowling and spending time with her family. Catherine helped raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren after the passing of their mothers at an early age.
The widow of two husbands, Ernest J. Dion and her first husband Alfred Beland, Catherine is survived by her grandchildren, Beverly Proulx and her husband Denis of Derry, NH, Marcia Blackington of Hampstead, NH, Alan Beland of Weare, NH and Diane Beland of Haverhill, MA.
13 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-granchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her two husbands, Catherine was also predeceased by her children, Ivan Beland, Dorothy Beland; beloved daughter-in-law Marcelle Beland and also her granddaughter Linda Ouellette.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours for family and friends will be Tuesday from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA 01844. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:00a.m. in St. Monica’s Church in Methuen, MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Andover, MA.
