Cornelius F. Kiely

TEWKSBURY: Cornelius F. "Connie" Kiely, age 77, a resident of Tewksbury for 43 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 18, 2012, following an extended illness.
He was the beloved husband of Noreen P. (Scanlon) Kiely, with whom he celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on April 25, 2012.
Born in Ballinhassig, County Cork, Ireland on December 9, 1934, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Hannah (Forde) Kiely.
He attended Ballinhassig schools and was a highly respected Gaelic Hurler. He graduated from the North Monastery in Cork, Ireland with honors.
In 1962, he emigrated to the United States and graduated from Bentley College.
Connie was an Accountant at M.I.T. Press in Cambridge, MA for over 28 years, until his retirement in 1996.
He was a resident of Tewksbury since 1969 and was a communicant of St. Dorothy's Parish in Wilmington.
Connie was an avid reader and an all-round sports fan. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, Noreen, he is survived by four children, Kevin F. Kiely of Tewksbury, Eileen A. Lowey and her husband Ralph, and Colleen M. Barron and her husband John all of Methuen, and Brian J. Kiely of Tewksbury; seven grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Olivia, Erin, Ella, Kaitlyn, and Keira; also many nieces and nephews in Ireland and England.
Connie was the brother of the late Donal, Sean, Jeremiah, Bridie and Mary Kiely, Joan Mahoney, and Christine Henry.
Calling hours will be Friday, June 22, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Saturday, June 23, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Dorothy's Church, Main St., Rte. 38, Wilmington. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Lung Association,(www.lungne.org), 460 Totten Pond Road, # 400, Waltham, MA 02451.
