Susan Jaquith Hutchinson

Susan Jaquith Hutchinson of Isle of Springs, Maine and Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away on June 16, 2012 surrounded by her family at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Susan was 70 years old and battled cancer for three years.
Daughter of Eleanor and Donald Jaquith, Susan was born on September 18, 1941. She grew up as part of a large family on the north shore of Boston, Massachusetts. Susan graduated from Beverly High School in 1959. After high school she attended Nasson College in Springvale, Maine and graduated with a degree in English in 1963. While attending Nasson College she met her husband of 49 years Albert N. Hutchinson of Lynnfield, Massachusetts.
After college, Susan moved to New York City and worked for Chase Manhattan Bank. She then moved to Connecticut in 1968 where she began raising a family and became deeply involved in the community. Susan served as a volunteer firewoman, a member of the planning and zoning board, and participated on the board of selectman eventually serving as the first selectman of Weston, Connecticut for four years. Susan and her husband moved to Florida in the fall of 1986 where Susan obtained her real estate broker’s license and worked in the real estate industry for several years.

Upon retirement, Susan focused on her passions in life which were the arts and the community. Susan mastered the techniques of various artistic mediums including watercolors, photography and most recently fiber arts, for which she recently won a national award for her work. Susan was a leader and served as the past-regent of the Amelia Island chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and she served as the Florida State American Heritage Chairperson in 2011. She was also President of the Amelia Island historical society.
Susan enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, travelling, boating, summers at the Isle of Springs and spending time with her family and friends.
Susan is survived by her husband Alan, her son Scott and daughter-in-law Dina, her daughter Julie and son-in-law Joel, her five grandchildren Will, Avery, Tucker, Myles and Max, as well as three sisters, a brother and the family dog Alex.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 30th at 2pm at the Boothbay Railway Village Meeting House in Boothbay, Maine. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry, NH is assisting the family.
