In Taunton, June 16, 2012 Sally (Morlock) Thigpen, age 90, died at the Taunton Nursing Home after a long period of declining health. Born and raised in Taunton, and a graduate of Taunton High School, Sally was the daughter of James and Susan (Gordon) Morlock. Orphaned at 13, Sally and her younger brother James “Tim” were lovingly raised by their sister and brother Helen (Higgins) Morlock and Bernard B. Morlock. All have predeceased her. She was the wife of Robert Thigpen Sr. of Taunton, who currently resides at Taunton Nursing Home. They were communicants of St. Mary’s Church, and had been married for 62 years. In Spite of her humble beginnings, Sally was successful professionally, working as Service Supervisor at the former Bay State Gas Co. in Brockton MA, where she made many lifelong friends. After retiring in 1985, Sally & Bob traveled extensively through the United States, Europe, and summered for many years in France. Though she enjoyed these excursions, Sally was always happiest to be home with her family. She enjoyed working in the garden, fitness walking and spending time at the seashore; she was an avid Red Sox fan. Her warmth, generosity and kindness endeared her to all who knew and loved her. In addition to her husband of 62 years, Sally is survived by her four devoted children Susan Short May and her husband William of VT; Bob Thigpen Jr. and his wife Sarah Gilmore of VT; Tina Stone and husband Raymond of Wrentham MA; and Stephen Thigpen and his wife Mindy of CA. She also leaves her loving grandchildren James May and his wife Claire, Alyssa May and her wife Tabitha Bowling, Tracy Thigpen, Adam Thigpen, Ian Stone and Lauren Thigpen, as well as her great-grandchildren Jonah, Mills and Marshall May, in addition to many loving nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Taunton on Thursday, June 21st at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours prior to her mass at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St. Taunton, MA 02780 from 9:30-10:30am. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
