Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Yvonne E. (Luster) Gonsalves, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Golden Living Center, surrounded by close family members, after a courageous eleven year battle with the effects from a paralytic stroke.
She was born in Gloucester on March 15, 1922, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Warby) Luster. Yvonne graduated from St. Ann’s High School with honors in the class of 1940. She also worked briefly in her family’s store, Luster’s Supermarket, which was on Maplewood Avenue. Then in 1944, she married her husband, Richard A. Gonsalves, Sr. while he was serving his country during World War II. They shared sixty-six years of marriage until Richard’s passing in 2010.
Yvonne enjoyed sharing great times with her family and many friends, by hosting parties, playing cards, traveling, taking long walks and spending summers at Good Harbor Beach. At social functions, you could always hear her infectious laughter as she always enjoyed a humorous story or a good joke.
She was a faithful mother and church goer. Yvonne is survived by her son, Richard A. Gonsalves, Jr. of Essex; a sister, Beverly Luster of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a brother, Donnie Luster and his wife, Patricia of San Diego, CA and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, Dana J. Gonsalves in 2008.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the American Stroke Assoc., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Interment will be held in Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville.
