Obituary

Miss Eleanor Harper, 90, of Wray, Georgia, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at Phoebe Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held 2 P.M., Monday, June 18 at the Evergreen Cemetery with Brother Ron Jordan officiating.

Miss Harper was born March 11, 1922, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Henry Brooks and Bessie Johnson Harper. She graduated from Ocilla High School in 1939. She was a gifted and self-taught painter whose work was shown in a New York City gallery in the early 70s. Besides painting and visiting with family and friends, she enjoyed listening to music, singing, and gardening. She provided shelter for many homeless animals. She was a homemaker and was a Jehovah’s Witness.

Survivors include her twin sisters, Mary H. Mitchell and Martha Fussell of Douglas, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. They include Mary Gail Knight, Clifton Fussell, Lorraine Fussell; Pierre Mitchell, Steven Mitchell, Kathy Mitchell; Bud Mitchell; Colin Meeks, Sherry Leeburn, and Greg Meeks. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Mildred H. Moore, Margaret Harper, and Josephine H. Meeks; two brothers, Paxton Harper and Louis Johnson Harper; and two nieces, Barbara Brooke Fussell and Teresa Harper Lowery.
