Obituary

Guy Giles Robbins, 90, entered into eternal rest at South Shore Hospital on Friday, June 15, 2012. He was born in Lowell, raised in Braintree and graduated from the Braintree High School in 1939. He was the son of the late Harry C. and Evabelle (Giles) Robbins.
During High School, Guy was very active in theater and music. He attended the New England Conservatory of Music, the Bergeron School of Music and the Longy School of Music.
Through out his earlier years, he was a soloist and speaker at various churches in the South Shore area and was a projectionist at many local theaters. In 1944, he was licensed to Ministry at the Braintree Baptist Church.
Guy was a U. S. Coast Guard and Navy veteran of World War II. He had sea duty aboard the Nantucket Lightship LS-112, the Pollock Rip Lightship, LS-110 along with the U.S.S. Wakefield, AP-21. He attended the Naval Training School for Chaplains at William and Mary College, Williamsburg, Va. During his military career, he was stationed in South Portland, ME, Providence, RI, Newport, RI and Rockland, ME. He received the following medals: the American Theater of War Medal, the European Theater of War Medal, the Victory Medal for WWII and the Good Conduct Medal. From 1941 to 1946, Guy was a Chaplain Assistant for both the U. S. Coast Guard and the U. S. Navy. During the war, he also was a radio announcer on the USCG Divine Services over WPRO in Providence, RI and WCSH in Portland, ME. He also was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary 1203 and a life member of the Coast Guard Sea Veterans.
He was a very active member of various Masonic Fraternal Organizations and held several positions including 50 year member of Old Colony Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Hingham, MA, the 18th Lodge of Instruction, Pentalpha Royal Arch Chapter of East Weymouth, MA, Temple Council of Royal and Select Masters of East Weymouth, South Shore Commandery No. 15 of East Weymouth, Quincy Commandery No. 47, Mayflower York Rite College, No. 105, MA, Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of MA, Grand Commandery of Knights Templers of MA and RI, Past Commanders’ Association and Grand Prelate Emeritus, Sovereign Order of Knight Preceptor of MA and RI, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Grand Representative to the State of Nevada for the Grand Commandery, Member of Knight Templers Commanders’ Association of MA and RI, Member of the Valley of Southeastern Massachusetts Scottish Rite, 32 degree

His hobbies included cameras and projectors, breeding and racing sled dogs, boating, archery, camping with his family, model trains and loved writing poetry, some of which were published in various journals, the Patriot Ledger and the poem “THE LIGHTSHIP” in a book written by Edward Rowe Snow.

He was the husband of the late Edna J. (Channell) Robbins and the father of the late Frederic L. Robbins of Whitman. He is survived by three children, Janis I. Swift and her husband John of Weymouth, David G. Robbins and his wife Linda of Scituate and Nancy J. Baldwin and her husband Bruce of Swansea. Fred’s widow, Linda J. Robbins of Whitman, also survives him. Guy also had 13 Grand Children and 11 Great Grand Children.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday June 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St., (Columbian Sq) S. Weymouth, MA. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday June 20 at 10 A.M. at The Holy Nativity Church, 8 Nevin Rd, S. Weymouth. A Masonic Service will be held with the Old Colony Order of Masons, Hingham on Tuesday at 7:30 P.M. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Ma. At 12:30 P.M.
