Obituary


Worcester: Knute L. Landgren, 94, died Friday, June 15, 2012 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret E. (Kallstrom) Landgren who passed July 2, 2010. He leaves a son Gary P. Landgren of Worcester.

Born in Worcester, Knute was the son of the late Leonard L. and Anna (Hyrske) Landgren. Mr. Landgren retired as an accountant at Norton Company. He was a graduate of North High School, New England School of Accounting and Worcester Junior College. He was a past president of the Worcester Chapter Institute Of Management Accountants with three years as National Director. In addition to being an Emeritus Life Associate, he received the "bridge builder" award followed by a membership in the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society.

Knute was a member of the American Legion Post 0462, Boston Chapter. He was a 60 year member of Morningstar Lodge, Eureka Royal Arch Chapter and the Hiram Council Royal and Selected Masters. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Nordic Lodge- Vasa Order of America and a life member of the Greendale Retired Men's Club.

During WWII, Knute served in the Army Infantry 26th Yankee Division Service Company followed by the Army Air Corps, 14th Air Force, 25th Fighter Squadron, C.B.I. and Asian theatre of operations.

Mr. Landgren served as treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Mass. Agency on Aging. He received the Outstanding Board Member Award from Mass Home Care in 1994. He also served several years as a volunteer with The Age Center of Worcester Nutrition Program, with one year as chairman of the advisory council.

Mr. Landgren was active with several singing societies including The Thule Male Chorus and two barbershop quartets, "The Modulaires" and "The Nortonaires". He had an intense interest in antiques and participated in many antique shops, shows, and flea markets with a major interest in old tools.

Mr. Landgren was a lifetime fan of all sports. Its hard to put into words his love for the Boston Red Sox. In the late 1960s (notably 1967) he was a member of "The BoSox Club" and attended banquets and had the pleasure of meeting many players of that day.

Memorial calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. in Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church 73 Lancaster St. Burial will follow in All Faiths Cemetery.
