Obituary

BEVERLY: Elaine Irene Washburn passed away, Wednesday, June 13, 2012 in the Essex Park Nursing Home in Beverly.
She was born in Bar Harbor, Maine on November 22, 1930 to the parents of Edna (Walls) (Mitchell) Megquier and Lawrence Mitchell then later enjoyed a wonderful step-father in Olney Megquier.
Elaine graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1948 and joined her new husband, Alfred Washburn, while serving in the U.S. Air Force in Anchorage, Alaska. After the Air Force, Elaine and Alfred began and completed their family with the birth of two sons in Skowhegan, Maine, Richard and James. Elaine, Alfred and family then moved to Beverly for employment at the United Shoe Machinery Corp. in 1954. Elaine enjoyed Beverly until her recent passing.
She will always be remembered as a grateful, loving and devoted wife and as a mother, always spoke proudly of her sons, grandchildren and new great-grandchildren. We all will miss her joy and laughter she brought to anyone she was with. Elaine’s way of being a wife, mother, grandmother and sister is a memory she leaves with us forever.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Alfred; two sons, Richard and his wife, Donna Washburn and James Washburn; seven grandchildren, Becky Washburn, Nicole Polson, Megan Washburn, Thomas Washburn, Gregory Washburn, Christopher Washburn and Sean Campbell; three great-grandchildren, River Washburn, Braydon Polson and Owen Washburn. Elaine is also survived by her brother, Richard Mitchell and his wife, Frances and her sister, Jackie Hanf, as well as her beloved pet dog, “Abby.”
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly at 7 p.m. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 5 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 or to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite, B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
