Obituary

Anthony A. Viera, 77, of Dartmouth died Friday April 30, 2004 unexpectedly at home.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Louis M. and Margaret Elizabeth (McGough) Viera, he lived in Dartmouth for most of his life.

He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.

Mr. Viera was formerly employed as a golf club designer for the Acushnet Company in both New Bedford and California. He also had been the assistant golf pro and caddymaster at the Country Club of New Bedford for 17 years. He currently was the proprietor of Tony Viera's Golf Shop, where he would repair and assemble golf clubs.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Dartmouth Memorial Post Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include a sister, Louise E. Lake of Dratmouth; three brothers, James R. Viera of Meriden, Connecticut, Edward L. Viera of Dartmouth and Royston, Georgia, and Robert M. Viera of Watertown, Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was the brother of the late Richard L. Viera, John J. Viera, and Geraldine M. Jerome.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Tuesday May 4, 2004 at 9 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd., North Dartmouth at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday May 3, 2004 from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
